Live today to die some other day

This is another beautiful story from my dad’s bag of stories which he always carries with him to make me understand the importance of certain basic things in life. He narrated this to me when I was a teenager and was tensed about petty things in life however, I can relate to this even more after growing up. I am sure all of us would be able to relate and learn the way of living life from it. Once a man named Rakesh had borrowed certain amount of money from his neighbor Jagdish which he had promised to return it in a month. He borrowed money to start his business but unfortunately material he had procured wasn’t sold until then hence he was not able to arrange for the funds to pay back Jagdish on time. In the middle of that cold December night, Rakesh was sweating with anxiety and stress that he won’t be able to return Jagdish’s money the next morning. He was walking in the hallway the entire night thinking what would he tell Jadish, what would be Jagdish’s reaction, would he understa...

The Hospital Window

Two men Zeshan and Mahinder who were both seriously ill, shared the same room in a hospital. Zeshan got a bed next to the room’s only window. Both of them were so ill that they could not get up from the bed and were completely bedridden

Getting bored in the hospital room together, the two of them quickly bonded and started talking for hours altogether. They talked about their lives, their job, children and wives. When there was nothing left to talk about, Zeshan whose bed was just next to the window started describing all the things he could see outside the window.

He told Mahinder that the hospital overlooked a lovely park in the mountain valley. It was spring season and there were flowers all around children came every evening and played till the sun went down. There was a river passing by the park where children use to sail their boats. People came to the park for their morning and evening walks. The window also gave a beautiful view of the city skyline. Every day he uses to describe the beautiful sunsets and rises behind the mountain ranges. Mahinder began to live for that part of the day when Zeshan would tell him what was happening in the city outside. Even though he was a bit envious of Zeshan, Mahinder uses to hear and visualize the world outside the hospital room.

Days and weeks passed by, one morning, a nurse arrived to examine the condition of the two patients sadly to find the lifeless body of Zeshan. Mahinder grieved the death of his roommate and as the day passed by he started missing the way his roommate described the view out of the window. Since life outside that small hospital room was the only thing keeping him alive, he always wished to peek out of the window and the beautiful world outside. Thus he requested the nurse several times to move him to the bed next to the window. After repeated requests, one day nurse moved Mahinder to the bed next to the window. He was very excited and happy thinking about the fact that he would finally able to see the beautiful park, the mountain ranges the sunsets, the sun rises and the city lights which his friend use to describe. As soon as he was comfortable in his new bed, the slowly and painfully propped himself to take his first look at the world outside, just to see a blank white wall outside the window. He was appalled and agitated and looking for answers. He asked the nurse that “Zeshan described everything so vividly did the hospital authorities construct new wall recently?”

The nurse shook her head and said “Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you and make you happy, Zeshan was totally blind”.

Mahindera realized that despite his own illness Zeshan was making him happy. He was aware of the fact that Mahinder was envious of that little window on the wall next to him so he decided to make him happy and started to tell beautiful stories about the view from the window. All this motivated made Mahinder and fasten his recovery process; it gave him a reason to be happy and live life.

Listen to your inner voice whenever you are doomed

A farmer while working on his farm realized that he had lost his watch. It wasn’t another watch for him, he had a lot of emotions attached to that watch. It was a gift from his father whom he loved so much but was no more. He tried searching for the watch in every nook and cranny for a long time but he just couldn’t find it. Right there on his farm there were a couple of children playing and jumping around. Tired from his search, he asked the children if they could help him find the watch and that anyone who is successful would be rewarded. The children were excited both with the adventure and the prospect of the hefty reward. They went in and began their search. They scanned through and around the entire stack of hay but still couldn’t find the watch.  Just as the disappointed farmer was about to give up looking for his watch, a little boy went up to him and asked if he could be given another chance. Hoping against the hopes, the farmer looked at the boy and seeing his si...

The Carrot, The Egg and The Coffee Bean- who was happier ?

There were three friends Carrot, Egg and Coffee bean. One fine day they decided to undergo something adventurous so they came up with a fun game in which they were to be placed in different jars filled with hot boiling water. Mr. Carrot dipped himself first. Facing the heat and force of the hot boiling water Mr. Carrot got scared, water had a catastrophic impact on him as he was affected to the extent where the damage caused was irreversible. He lost his original form and became soft, mushy and slim just in 3 minutes. Then came Mr. Egg who was able to survive in the ring for a longer period of time without changing its shape or size but after a few minutes the scalding hot water started to get on his nerve too and he began to change gradually. On facing the hot scorching water for 10 minutes he too lost his individuality and became way too much stiff, firm and rigid. After going through major changes both the friends started cursing the beastly water; they held it responsible for makin...

King Labadatta's currency notes

Wanatsu was a kingdom that was flourishing day by day under the reign of king Labadatta. Labadatta was knowledgeable and hard working. He had a good experience of all the administration and financial issues of the kingdom, as his father Late King Rabasam made him undergo all the roles during Labadatta's learning period. Labadatta wanted to bring more and more development to his kingdom in each and every sphere and to do that he planned to issue currency notes and coins for his kingdom. The plan was discussed among all the courtiers and they all agreed with King Labadtta. All the ministers also agreed, but they had a question in their mind. Labadatta eventually understood that there was something regarding which ministers wanted to talk about. Being a wise man, he politely asked the ministers about the question. The ministers were confident and with due respect one of them said,” Your Majesty, we agree to your plan of issuing currency notes and coins, but what will be the symb...
