Live today to die some other day

This is another beautiful story from my dad’s bag of stories which he always carries with him to make me understand the importance of certain basic things in life. He narrated this to me when I was a teenager and was tensed about petty things in life however, I can relate to this even more after growing up. I am sure all of us would be able to relate and learn the way of living life from it. Once a man named Rakesh had borrowed certain amount of money from his neighbor Jagdish which he had promised to return it in a month. He borrowed money to start his business but unfortunately material he had procured wasn’t sold until then hence he was not able to arrange for the funds to pay back Jagdish on time. In the middle of that cold December night, Rakesh was sweating with anxiety and stress that he won’t be able to return Jagdish’s money the next morning. He was walking in the hallway the entire night thinking what would he tell Jadish, what would be Jagdish’s reaction, would he understa...

Grass is always greener from the other side of the fence

Day before yesterday I was in a conversation with my best friend and I came across a really different experience which he shared. He belonged to a business family, his father was the one to keep the foundation stones of the business. Like any other boy born with a silver spoon in mouth, he was constantly teased and questioned by all of his friends, that why was he even pursuing his graduation. He even shared one of his experiences at school, where at a Parent Teacher meeting one of his classmate’s father blamed him as a bad influence and also mentioned that life is way easier for him because he has his father’s business to pursue. Whereas being the son of a serviceman the classmate does not have an easy way out, life is way tougher for his classmate. That very day he saw his father cry which was quite disheartening for him and it would have been for any of us as well. After his graduation when he joined his family business he faced various different kind of challenges, his father had...

The Hospital Window

Two men Zeshan and Mahinder who were both seriously ill, shared the same room in a hospital. Zeshan got a bed next to the room’s only window. Both of them were so ill that they could not get up from the bed and were completely bedridden Getting bored in the hospital room together, the two of them quickly bonded and started talking for hours altogether. They talked about their lives, their job, children and wives. When there was nothing left to talk about, Zeshan whose bed was just next to the window started describing all the things he could see outside the window. He told Mahinder that the hospital overlooked a lovely park in the mountain valley. It was  spring season and there were flowers all around children came every evening and played till the sun went down. There was a river passing by the park where children use to sail their boats. People came to the park for their morning and evening walks. The window also gave a beautiful view of the city skyline. Every day he uses t...

Listen to your inner voice whenever you are doomed

A farmer while working on his farm realized that he had lost his watch. It wasn’t another watch for him, he had a lot of emotions attached to that watch. It was a gift from his father whom he loved so much but was no more. He tried searching for the watch in every nook and cranny for a long time but he just couldn’t find it. Right there on his farm there were a couple of children playing and jumping around. Tired from his search, he asked the children if they could help him find the watch and that anyone who is successful would be rewarded. The children were excited both with the adventure and the prospect of the hefty reward. They went in and began their search. They scanned through and around the entire stack of hay but still couldn’t find the watch.  Just as the disappointed farmer was about to give up looking for his watch, a little boy went up to him and asked if he could be given another chance. Hoping against the hopes, the farmer looked at the boy and seeing his si...

Dee won the battle, and it was time to win the war

Getting to know a transgender was a really new experience for him because the impression he had in his head until knowing her was very different.   When he got to know her through her thick and thins he realized that it’s not all jolly and rosy for LGBT community to stand up and accept themselves as well as make the world accept the LGBT community with open arms. Legally transgenders have attained all the rights but socially and practically they were still frowned upon which wasn’t a pleasant sight. Dee told that acceptance even by her family initially was such a tough task.   Her parents used to feel ashamed of her and her brother used to feel embarrassed about her. They had confined her for all her school life, she was ill-treated and wasn’t given her independence. Her family used to publicly disown and boycott her. When Dee was growing up this treatment happened for a while. After few sessions and interaction with counselors, her parents realized what big of a blunde...

King Labadatta's currency notes

Wanatsu was a kingdom that was flourishing day by day under the reign of king Labadatta. Labadatta was knowledgeable and hard working. He had a good experience of all the administration and financial issues of the kingdom, as his father Late King Rabasam made him undergo all the roles during Labadatta's learning period. Labadatta wanted to bring more and more development to his kingdom in each and every sphere and to do that he planned to issue currency notes and coins for his kingdom. The plan was discussed among all the courtiers and they all agreed with King Labadtta. All the ministers also agreed, but they had a question in their mind. Labadatta eventually understood that there was something regarding which ministers wanted to talk about. Being a wise man, he politely asked the ministers about the question. The ministers were confident and with due respect one of them said,” Your Majesty, we agree to your plan of issuing currency notes and coins, but what will be the symb...

LIfe in a Metro

Inspired by true events Back in my graduation days like any other extrovert or an ambivert person I use to love to socialize and during one such socializing event I came across 2 individuals who shared one of their life altering experience with me so today I’d like to site their experience and try to pen it through my words. Both of these people were migrants who were living in Delhi for their studies. They both were a part of an esteemed institution. Like any other migrant or I’d say a small towner, they liked being in Delhi and while adapting to the culture of Delhi they started losing themselves because they got too much involved in their friendships and gradually phased out their families from their daily routine, like most of us did. All these metropolitan cities are the pride of our nation and Delhi being the nation’s capital has its own cultural diversities and rich heritage. Usually the migrants who shift to any of these metropolitan cities tend to stay there for their ...

The Battle of Karan and Arjun

Life is just like a sea that has both high tides and low tides at different intervals. But the best sailor is one who can stay calm and reach to his destination. Every person needs to stick to his/her own roots and never gloat of himself as TIME is the real factor that can transform a person from rags to riches in the blink of an eye. The following story is taken from one of the most famous book in the Hindu mythology, The Mahabharta, which in itself has many lessons for a human being to learn and live life. In the 18 days long war of Mahabhartha one day Arjuna and Karan were face to face in the battleground. Both of them were the best of the warriors. That day, both of them were on their chariots and fought using bow and arrows. Lord Krishna was the charioteer of Arjuna’s chariot. Lord Krishna vowed not to pick up any weapons in the war but his mere presence was enough to support and guide him throughout the 18 day war. Karan’s son was executed in the battle by Arjuna and Karan refu...

Fixing the Russian army ship

All of us in our childhood came across a lot of stories that were told to us back then by our parents to help us understand the difference between right and wrong, ethical and unethical. I’d like to mention one such story which made a life-altering impact on me. So as told by my father there was a battleship that was purchased by the Russian army. This battleship was procured in an open auction and as this was an old one so it had to be repaired and restored. After completion of the restoration work, the person-in-charge for the restoration was asked to switch on the engine and henceforth put the battleship into the ignition. But even after pressing the button to switch on the engine, the ship did not start. The person-in-charge decided on taking external help, thus called in several professionals to diagnose the problem and further come up with the solution. A lot of professionals were hired to provide their services but none of them were able to repair it. Then one fine day the...

The Carrot, The Egg and The Coffee Bean- who was happier ?

There were three friends Carrot, Egg and Coffee bean. One fine day they decided to undergo something adventurous so they came up with a fun game in which they were to be placed in different jars filled with hot boiling water. Mr. Carrot dipped himself first. Facing the heat and force of the hot boiling water Mr. Carrot got scared, water had a catastrophic impact on him as he was affected to the extent where the damage caused was irreversible. He lost his original form and became soft, mushy and slim just in 3 minutes. Then came Mr. Egg who was able to survive in the ring for a longer period of time without changing its shape or size but after a few minutes the scalding hot water started to get on his nerve too and he began to change gradually. On facing the hot scorching water for 10 minutes he too lost his individuality and became way too much stiff, firm and rigid. After going through major changes both the friends started cursing the beastly water; they held it responsible for makin...
